Aviation changed that for malahinis (newcomers and tourists) and kamaainas (natives and long time residents). Peter Forman's Wings of Hawaii is both a detailed history of how this developed and an insight into the romance of both the industry and the islands. From seaplane flights, through new views of the attack on the Day of Infamy, from an exploding airliner to price wars, Forman has us in the pilot's seat. I must admit a bias, in that that I grew up in Hawaii, and flew as a pilot for some of the airlines mentioned in this book. Forman tells an exciting, accurate story of Hawaii aviation. The book reads like a novel, with not a tedious sentence printed. I highly recommend this book for aviation/airline fans. You'll enjoy it!. "One of the best books on the industry" according to B. Etgen. This book draws from such rich and varied sources that it really shines. I will read it again with equal pleasure. The book manages to do justice to its title while still giving careful vignettes of the personalities, planes and times. So much of what happens in this story is influenced by other events in the industry that the entire setting gives you a good sense of why decision were made and why they turned out the way they did.Soon into the book I realized that parts of it I would want easy access. I also made a list of the fascinating developments that surprised me. Here are a few:
