"Quite marvelous -- a journey of life and flying that contains some of the most fetching words yet penned about a father-son relationship" --Rich Karlgaard, "Forbes""You don't have to be a pilot, or even a frequent flyer, to soar with Greg Brown in Flying Carpet." --Nina Bell Allen, Asst
The author's adventures take place in the course of every type of mission from surmounting family emergencies to visiting unusual destinations - in ways that only travel by airplane allows. Pilot readers will be stimulated to pursue similar destinations in their own flying carpets. Flying Carpet shows not only how people fly - but why. This book goes beyond the physical act of flying - it's about conquering the nagging fears that consume every new pilot when mastering this most revered and challenging of human endeavors. Most of all, it's about the joy and boundless freedom of being a pilot, pursuing like our aerial ancestors the inescapable lure of the map. Aviators seeking purpose for their flying skills will find it here.
He holds an airline transport pilot certificate with Boeing 737 type rating, and flight instructor certificate with all fixed-wing aircraft ratings. Of course he's not alone; all pilots feel that way. To this day, every takeoff is as exciting for him as the first one. Greg Brown has long wandered the skies of North America with family and friends. An aviator since 1972, Greg was 2000 National Flight Instructor of the Year, winner of the 1999 NATA Excel
Excellent book for all seeking adventure Graywolf I am a student pilot and have been reading just about everything I can get my hands on that has to do with flying for the past two years. I first learned of Greg Brown through his Flying Carpet column in AOPA's Flight Training magazine and enjoyed his articles and writing. I stumbled upon this book through a search on Amazon and am so glad I did! T. "Flying at its best!" according to Wayne Parent. This very well written book is filled with the real flying experiences of a general avaiation pilot. The fact that Greg Brown is a CFI comes through in almost every chapter in the form of good lessons learned. A joy to read for any pilot or aspiring pilot.. Warren Strickland said Highly Recommended. Well written and entertaining - plus good photos and maps. Rises above travelogue by virtue of personal/autobiographical touches.
