DESCRIPTION:
"The Horse and Buggy Doctor follows no conventional lines. Hertzler's in particular. In larger part it is a book rich in anecdotes, a lively and somewhat rough-and-ready depiction of the country physician's experiences in general and Dr. In part it is descriptive of medical methods of the period."—New York Times
"Insightful Reading" according to Donald E. Honey. This book provides insight into the basic knowledge and practice of the horse and buggy doctor of the past. Hertzler's writing reflects the writing style of the past but he is very articulate. He delves into his philosophy of life in general as seen by a rural doctor. Feminists will recoil at his comments on the treatment of women and the maladies he sees as common to females. I expecte. Cheapest GREAT BOOK you will ever buy! Struggles of a rural surgeon from the 1880s-1930s, incredible! Tornadoes, Snow storms, raging creeks, runaway horses and false alarms, the surgeon makes his house calls through it all. His insight into human strengths and weaknesses are priceless- Dr. Phil could take lessons.. classical fan said medicine as it once was. This book was written by my Great Grandfather Dr. Arthur Hertzler it is interesting romp to a time when medicine was rather primitive. Filled anecdotes and written with a dry sense of humor
In larger part it is a book rich in anecdotes, a lively and somewhat rough-and-ready depiction of the country physician's experiences in general and Dr. And the man is worth looking at."-Saturday Review of Literature "An honest and objective self-record that puts on paper one of the most beloved traditions of the past and shows that the fundamental virtues for which the country doctor was cherished have survived into the scientific present, while many not-so-good aspects of sentimental old days have fortunately been left behind."-Books. Certainly it is the complete picture of a man. Hertzler's in particular. "The Horse and Buggy Doctor follows no conventional lines. In part it is descriptive of medical methods of the period."-New York Times "This is almost an autobiography
