DESCRIPTION:
In a society that decides your status by the color of your hair, black-haired Shumei clings to the bottom of the social ladder, forever doomed to slave away in the medicine field of a tiny mountain village. However, a catastrophic disease breaks out among their small population and she must provide treatment for the deadly fever. Shumei nearly makes it back safely but is literally caught by a breathtakingly handsome man…who isn't really human. Demons roam the woods and magic is believed to be one of the Damned Arts. When her supply of medicine runs out, she is forced to make a trip to the medicine field, but traveling outside the village at night is almost certainly a death sentence. Set in a fictional world based upon sixteenth-century Japan, Shumei's story overflows with powerful magic, mortal danger, shocking discoveries, hidden histories and soul-shaking passion.. From that night onward, her dismal, isolated life radically changes
This Book Stands Out I am not 'into' this genre but the book is beyond that. It is a well written fantasy with strong character development and scenes are set well.A number of sub-plots expand on the scope. This is an excellent book for all adult readers.. Amazon Customer said A mystical and magical story!. This is a fascinating story set in a world richly woven with ancient Japanese themes and mystical beings. The flavors of the exotic settings heighten the tension felt by the characters when dealing with prejudices that affect the most basic aspects of their lives. The characters are compelling in their pain and their growth as individuals. The romance builds from a dire need that evolves into burning desire and deep affection. This will appeal to romance readers everywhere!. Wonderful Kerrigan I first read the readers work through her internet fan fiction and became aware of the book through her fan fiction website. I read that book and fell in love with it. I was a great read, the plot wasn't transparent at all and the steamy bits were delectable. I enjoyed watching Shumei grow and develop throughout the novel as well.
