DESCRIPTION:
A reason for reform of Michigan foster care. Stefanie Baj Wonderful read! I couldn't put it down. This book gives insight into the failure of the foster care system. The author gives an honest and sometimes humorous account of growing up as a displaced child. He endures much trauma by the hands of those in charge of his wellfare.. "Illuminating Story" according to Amazon Customer. This book is as much an indictment of inner-city multigenerational poverty as an expose of the foster care system. The young author was abused far more by his own mother, who beat the children and left them to starve while she pursued men and drugs on the taxpayer's dime. Repeatedly, the court tried family reconciliation, but the mother mistreated the poor children. Some of the foster homes were abusive as well. The author turned to drugs and prostitution before entering the mental healt. "Five Stars" according to Shawna Richards. A must read for every human being.
Using the story of a child, a young man who spent 12 years of his life in foster care, 12 to Life aims to show how years of mental, physical, and sexual abuse can directly impede a court ward's chances of succeeding in life. Reader discretion is advised.
