Knownprimarily as a teacher and writer, he has received eight teaching awards and has writtenfour textbooks on fluid mechanics and heat transfer. From 1979 to 1990 he was editor-in-chief of the ASME Journal of FluidsEngineering and then served from 1991 to 1997 as chairman of the ASME Boardof Editors and of the Publications Committee. . In 1966 he helpedfound, at URI, the first department of ocean engineering in the country. He studied at Georgia Tech and M.I.T
JG said Too hard for an undergrad !. I used this book for an undergrad fluid mechanics course. The book is well written, however I eventually gave up on trying to read and understand it. It seems is written by a really smart person and most of the time I found the material in the book to be over my head. A lot of my classmates thought the same thing too. I often thought that this textbook is more suite. Decent Book Y. Zhu I used this book for my undergrad fluid mechanics class for civil engineering.Overall, the book is a solid intro to fluid mechanics. The explanations are pretty clear, and the example problems are helpful and relevant. Here are some of the book's downsides:- Many of the solutions at the end of the book are wrong which is very frustrating since this is the 7th printi. Vlad said Could be Better. I have to state a few things before I go into this review. At my university this course is supposed to come after calculus Could be Better I have to state a few things before I go into this review. At my university this course is supposed to come after calculus 3 (vector calculus i.e. triple and double integration, vector fields, etc) and after differential equations. Also usually after a numerical analysis course, I took a graduate level numerical analysis and methods course before I started this cour. White's Fluid Mechanics offers students a clear and comprehensive presentation of the material that demonstrates the progression from physical concepts to engineering applications and helps students quickly see the practical importance of fluid mechanics fundamentals. The book’s unique problem-solving approach is presented at the start of the book and carefully integrated in all examples. Connect allows the professor to assign homework, quizzes, and tests easily and automatically grades and records the scores of the student's work. Students can progress from general ones to those involving design, multiple steps and computer usage.McGraw-Hill Education's Connect, is also available as an optional, add on item. Problems are randomized to prevent sharing of answers an may also have a "multi-step soluti
