He came of automotive age during the 1960's, the golden age of muscle cars. Surrounded by Camaros, Mustangs, Super Birds, and their ilk, his dream car was a Stanley Steamer. "Flaming Floorboards" is a true account of these and many similar adventures which befell the author, a man who ambled through life adopting stray cars the way other people adopt stray cats. Dupree, a reporter/pool shark turned Episcopal priest; Luis Riccotto, the proprietor of Riccotto and Sons Imported motors; and Otis Swineheart, a man of few words and fewer teeth. (Looking back, the author admits it may not have been a coincidence that he didn't get many dates.) Flaming brilliant! John Swanland I totally loved this book--I have a fairly short attention span with books and I kept wishing this would never end. Anyone with an interest in old cars would enjoy reading this. The car stories are interspersed with social history which makes a very readable and well written package. What a wonderful way to spend a couple days reading. An absolutely wonderful book! It’s a mixture of musings, memoirs, and many unforgettable moments of living with a passion for old cars. I became interested in the book when I removed the very first car I ever owned out of a 38 year storage and began to restore it for no particular reason. It’s a 1961 MGA -- a little newer than Steve's, but basically the same. My MGA has historical license plates on it so driving is li.
