KEKEKE said I would have liked this book much better. Helpful in terms of understanding architecture. I am hesitant to give 5 stars because he seems to overtly favor historical styles--definitely not a fan of modernistic architecture that seemingly tries to sever itself from the long line of architectural history (or so he claims). Just as the title implies, this book is about how to read architecture. Reading requires understanding the vocabulary and structure of the language concerned. O'Gorman begins with Vitruvius' notions of function, structure, and beauty, and relates them to a building's plan, section, and elevation drawings respectively.
