An excellent, practical book - and fun to read! Pat This book does an excellent job of sharing the lessons of Tom Schelling, the Nobel Prize winning economist, in an entertaining and informative way. I like the way the author also brought in perspectives from others like Dave Barry, Tom Friedman and Phil Jackson, and I appreciate the very specific examples the author provides of applications of game theory. Dr. Schelling's work is the philosophy behind the theories of many. "Primer for the rest of Schelling's work." according to Mark Coons Jr. When I read this book, I did so in order to get a better understanding of Schelling's work: Arms and Influences and The Strategy of Conflict. Mathematics often make game theory challenging but was not a major part of Schelling's course and is even less of a factor in this book. While considerable analysis is done with the basic game theory tool--the two-by-two matrix--much of the book is descriptive and rational decision-making is explained with stories. Armed with Schelling's understanding of game theory methods and his approaches to problems, the general reader can improve daily decision making. Thomas Schelling, who wrote the foreword for this book, won the Nobel Prize in economics for "having enhanced our understanding of conflict and cooperation through game-theory analysis."
