Sensual and psychological. Knowing this book was the first in a series, Guards of Folsom, revolving around the BDSM scene, I expected a lot of hot steamy scenes involving bondage and a bit of pain. What I got was so much more!Peterson not only introduces you to the scene, but also puts you into the mind and body of the players exposing the dynamics of submissive and dominate relationships. You're not just entertained with flogging, and educated about sensual toys, but forced through the characters POV to consider why they please, or what their denial could offer.I'm always impressed when a sensational, steamy story can dig deeper and ask harder questions - make me . 4.5 stars! JustJen I have been wanting to read this for quite some time. Unfortunately, it kept getting pushed down my list. So, when Ms. Peterson was selected as our Spotlight Author, I grabbed the opportunity to get this series started. Boy, am I happy I did.I have become pretty picky about my BDSM reads these days. Too often I see the same old, same old, master/sir, “mine”, choppy dialog, etc. So, I am always happy/relieved to find one that not only holds my interest but doesn’t hit a number of my negative buttons.Here, we meet Tackett, a recently retired, wealthy businessman who is a little down on himself after celebrating his 45th bi. Another winner by Sjd Peterson I fell in love with Micah as soon as he was introduced. Cocky, sweet, but so freaking scatterbrained. He's a great character.Tackett is interesting in his own right. He's a hard man, he doesn't have time to play with the tempting little sub, regardless of how much he appreciates the attention.Micah doesn't let go when he wants something, though. And he WANTS Tackett.Poor Tackett never had a chance. :)---And I have to say, after reading this story, I had the weirdest craving for banana cupcakes.
