MJenningsDBQ said Another hit from quite possibly the best author in the genre. When I first started reading Carsen Taite's books--I think Rush was the first, followed by Reasonable Doubt, The Best Defense, and at least half a dozen others--it quickly became apparent that she was one of my favorite authors of lesbian fiction.Having just finished Above the Law, it's now clear that she is one of my favorite authors, period, irregardless of genre. One thing that you can count on with this author is that she is going to craft a pair of main characters who are flawed and fantastic, compelling and complex, a little broken and a lot brave. This book is no different. Now if you ask me to pick nits and find one fault I guess I woul. Disappointment From A Talented Author Avid CT Reader First let me say I find Carson Taite to be a talented author. However, if this was the only book I had read by her my opinion would be much different. The first part of the story is just fine and unfolds at a slightly slow pace, but still unfolds. Then the story speeds up and it totally lost me. I have no idea what really happened in the end - I know this is to get me to buy the next book in this series. I also have no idea how the two main individuals suddenly declared their love for one another. In other words the story just fell apart with no logical thread. I find books that do this to sell me on a series to be extremely disappointing. If. Alex "Powerful women characters." according to Alex 2Powerful women characters. The story line for this particular book was intriguing, to say the least.Starting off with a heart wrenching and life changing loss for one of the main characters, instantly draws the reader in and compels them to read more. I also applaud the author for creating MULTIPLE confident, successful and intelligent women characters; not only that, but these characters are portrayed to be successful in normal male dominated fields. I find that completely encouraging! However, the concern I have for the book as a whole is the budding romance between the two main characters; in my opinion, the author rushes the relationship to the point where it not be. .
